The Federal government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) assisted Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) revealed that IFAD’s additional financing will focus more on women participation in agriculture. That was according to IFAD Country Programme Officer, Dr. Ben Odemena.
The Project goals are – to reduce rural poverty, increase food security and accelerate sustainable economic growth. It also aims to reduce vulnerability for smallholder farmers, particularly women and young people, who engage in rice and cassava farming.
According to Dr. Odemena , the joint Federal government/IFAD mission was targeted at ascertaining the level of women participation in agriculture.
According to him, the findings will enable the team design support for more women participation in the VCDP Additional Financing which is expected to terminate in 2021.
Dr. Odemena, who interacted with farmers, noted that CAF had facilitated businesses for farmers, engaged government on policy dialogue to solve rural farming problems and established financial linkages.
