IFAD extends intervention to 3 more L.G.As in Benue State.

The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD)-Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP) has extended its intervention to three more Local Government Areas ((LGAs) in Benue state, Northern Nigeria

This was disclosed by The State Programme Coordinator (SPC), Mr Emmanuel Igbaukum on Tuesday in Naka, Gwer West Local Government Area of the state at the launch of the 2019 IFAD-VCDP input distribution ceremony and the new local councils included for the intervention are Agatu, Gwer West and Kwande.

According to him the organisation had in the past years intervened in only five local government areas namely Gwer East, Guma, Logo, Ogbadibo and Okpokwu.

The Coordinator said that the extension of IFAD-VCDP intervention was made possible because more funds had been attracted to the state through the organisation.

He said the intervention was extended to the three councils because the programme had excelled in the state and farmers in the affected councils were doing well.

“Benue has been recognised as one of the best performing states as far as IFAD-VCDP is a concern. It was given international recognition.

“The farmers that we linked to the off-takers have no problems with them. They are paying their loans as expected.

“We have recorded low cases of defaults. I enjoin the farmers that will be benefiting from the loan for the first time to be faithful in repaying their loans.

“If they are paying their loans faithfully, it will spur the off-takers to consider them for more assistance even if their partnership with IFAD-VCDP was no longer there,” he explained.

The SPC also listed some of the inputs that the organisation brought for distribution to farmers to include, herbicides, certified seeds, agrochemicals, cassava cuttings among others
